Creating a spa at home can be a great way to relax and rejuvenate yourself after a long day or week!
The word “spa” itself is believed to have originated from the Latin phrase “salus per aquam,” which means “health through water.
The beneficial effects of SPA were already known in ancient Rome, where (unfortunately, only the extremely wealthy) had a chance to benefit from it by utilizing natural springs and baths for their therapeutic properties. They knew perfectly well that this was a great way to clear the mind and relax.
So the basis of a real SPA is always water. It is considered a great medicine for stress, tension in the body and mind, as well as various types of skin diseases. Water is often used with the addition of herbs, oils, or salt.
SPA nowadays
Gone are the days of simple mud masks and cucumber slices! Today’s spas are a sanctuary for the senses, with Instagram-worthy aesthetics at every turn. From rainbow-colored facials to avocado-infused hair treatments, spas are taking pampering to a whole new level!
However, if you can’t make it to a spa or if circumstances prevent you from going out, creating a spa experience at home is easier than you think.
Spa at home – The bath
Holding to this ancient idea – let water remain the foundation of your home SPA. If you have a bath, that’s fantastic! You can treat yourself to a bath like Queen Cleopatra.
worth adding to water:
essential oils – are my absolute favorite things in awhile word. Not only do they smell amazing but they a huge range of benefits. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil into your bathwater and rip the benefits! My favorite combinations:
- lavender, chamomile, and ylang-ylang – for relaxation.
- orange, lemon, and grapefruit – for that refreshing feeling.
- eucalyptus, peppermint, and tea tree – revitalizing, also can help clear your sinuses, and soothe your tired muscles.
- rose, geranium, and jasmine – this combination smells amazing is nourishing and hydrating for your skin.
salt– reach for good quality salt. The beneficial elements in salt such as iodine, magnesium, and potassium, have a positive effect on our bodies and well-being. This combination has to relaxing and detoxifying properties.
You don’t have to limit yourself if it comes to little add-ins. You can also add to the bath what you can find in the kitchen – milk, honey, ginger, oatmeal infusion, and various herbs (many of them can be found in the cupboard with teas!). The following are ideal for bathing: chamomile, oak bark, calendula, linden blossom, and lavender.
No bath?
If you don’t have a bathtub, no worries. We can recreate a similar atmosphere in the shower. You also use essential oils in the shower. Pop 10-12 drops of your oil onto a sponge, face cloth or even a cotton pad and place it somewhere within the shower where it won’t be directly hit by the water.
It is good to give your feet a bath too from time to time. They actually carry us through life every day!
Aside from giving our feet a bath is, good to go barefoot as much as possible. Going barefoot allows us to ground ourselves better and feel a better connection with Mother Earth, which we often lack by constantly wearing shoes.
Walking barefoot, not only grounds us, is an ideal form of massages like acupuncture and acupressure. Feet are a map of our body, and pressing the right places can remove diseases from other parts of the body. In addition, a massage like that improves blood circulation, which promotes faster cleansing of the body.
Peeling to get rid of the old dead skin
During your shower or a bath is worth doing a peeling. Again you can use something that you have in your kitchen. A mixture of salt or sugar with oil and essential oil is probably the simplest DIY cosmetic.
Skin scrub benefits:
Body scrubs are a great addition to the spa at home. They are a great way to exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells and leaving it feeling smooth and refreshed. Here are some benefits of using body scrubs:
Improved skin texture: By exfoliating dead skin cells, body scrubs help improve skin texture, leaving it feeling smoother and softer.
Increased circulation
Massaging a body scrub onto the skin can help stimulate circulation and blood flow, which can help promote a healthy glow.
Better absorption of skin care products
Exfoliating with a body scrub can help remove any barriers that prevent skincare products from penetrating the skin, allowing them to be more effective.
Reduced ingrown hairs
Regular use of body scrubs can help prevent ingrown hairs by removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores.
Here are some homemade body scrub recipes you can try to create your spa at home:
Coffee and Coconut Oil
Mix 1 cup of coffee grounds with 1/2 cup of coconut oil and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Apply to the skin in a circular motion and rinse off with warm water. Coffee grounds are great for exfoliating and reducing the appearance of cellulite, while coconut oil is moisturizing and nourishing.
Honey and Sugar
Mix 1/2 cup of honey with 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of almond oil. Apply to the skin in a circular motion and rinse off with warm water. Honey is antibacterial and moisturizing, while sugar is a gentle exfoliant.
Lemon and Salt
Mix 1/2 cup of sea salt with 1/4 cup of olive oil and the juice of 1 lemon. Apply to the skin in a circular motion and rinse off with warm water. Lemon is rich in Vitamin C and helps brighten the skin, while salt is an excellent exfoliant.
Oatmeal and Yogurt
Mix 1/2 cup of ground oatmeal with 1/2 cup of plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply to the skin in a circular motion and rinse off with warm water. Oatmeal is a gentle exfoliant and helps soothe dry or irritated skin, while yogurt contains lactic acid to help exfoliate and brighten.
Moisturizing
After getting out of the bath or shower,. Try to pat your favorite butter or lotion on the damp body. It is worth giving it a little bit more time to absorb everything. It’s best to wear pajamas or a bathrobe and let the fatty substances penetrate deep into the skin.
Protip straight from the SPA – put a bowl of lotion or oil that you want to rub in on the radiator – it will be pleasantly warm when applied!
Create a spa at home by putting some face masks on!
Personally, I love face masks. I have the feeling with that goo that you put on your face, there is also a message – “stop, have a rest!”. I put it on and … somehow that just automatically happens instead of running around, I then sit down and read or drink a cup of tea for your at-home spa day.
recipes for homemade masks:

SPA at home – take care of the mood
The secret of every SPA or massage parlor, apart from the treatments themselves, is… the mood.
When it comes to creating a spa-like atmosphere at home, the right ambiance is essential. The key is to create a calming and relaxing space that appeals to all your senses. Play some soothing music or nature sounds to help you unwind and relax. You can also add some gentle aromatherapy with essential oils or scented candles. Choose calming scents like lavender, chamomile, or vanilla to help you de-stress and promote relaxation.
You can also create a cozy corner with soft blankets, pillows, and a comfortable chair for reading or meditation. By paying attention to the details and creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere, you can easily transform any space in your home into a spa-like retreat that rejuvenates your mind, body, and soul.
Mindful meditation
Yes, meditation can be another element to create your own spa at home feeling. Do not hesitate. Just experience. Check yourself. And if necessary – change and improve. Sit anywhere. Sit down anyway. Sit down for a while and see how it goes.
We don’t have to sit in meditation for half an hour or 15 minutes right away. We can even start with 2 minutes. Generally, 2 minutes sounds like… nothing. And that’s the advantage! Such a short time will not deter you from starting. And once you start, it only gets easier. Besides, with 2 minutes, it’s hard to make an excuse under the title: I don’t have time.
Start with 2 minutes of meditation and continue this habit for a week, for example. Then gradually increase this time. Small steps will help you avoid the initial discouragement and build an effective habit.
Healthy snacks and beverages – big part of creating spa at home!
No spa at home experience is complete without some healthy snacks and beverages to nourish your body. Consider incorporating some fresh fruit, herbal tea, or refreshing infused water to help you stay hydrated and energized. Here are some options for you:
fresh fruit: Fresh fruit is always s great option for a light and refreshing snack. Think of fruit like sliced melon, berries, or a mixed fruit salad.
vegetable crudité: Vegetable crudité is a fabulous option such as sliced cucumber, carrots, and bell peppers, and can be a very tasty option. Try to serve them with hummus, and tzatziki, for added flavor.
herbal tea: Herbal tea is my absolute favorite option for a soothing and calming drink. Consider serving a variety of herbal teas, such as chamomile, peppermint, or lavender.
infused water: Infused water is a refreshing and hydrating beverage that can be easily customized to suit your tastes. Add sliced fruit, herbs, or citrus to your water for a delicious and refreshing twist.
smoothies: Smoothies are a great way to get in some additional nutrients and protein. Consider trying my two favorite recipes for nourishing and refreshing smoothies.
