This easy and healthy homemade vegan teriyaki sauce recipe will take you only minutes to make and tastes a lot better than store-bought. I am sure there are plenty of recipes for this sauce online but all of them differ just slightly. I love that they are so versatile! You can add more or less of some of the ingredients to suit your taste. If you are a meal planner like me ( I think you know that by now) it is easy to add this to your plan on those days when you know you are crazy busy 🧐.
I use teriyaki sauce is in stir fry dishes and stir-fries are one of those dishes that are pretty quick and easy to make and are full of fresh and crunchy vegetables – my favorite part! They are very easy to customize too as you can add any vegetables you have on hand or have to use up. If you follow this recipe for vegan teriyaki sauce you can easily create a meal that is healthy, budget-friendly. I in my humble opinion the perfect kind of meal to make at the moment when you think of buying that takeaway or you are short on time and you want to get those veggies into everyone’s bellies. Typically, you will find a combination of honey and sugar in teriyaki sauce but obviously, I wanted this recipe to be entirely vegan so I used maple syrup instead.
My favorite way to serve this vegan teriyaki sauce is with stir-fried veggies over delicious sticky rice. You can use brown or white, whichever you prefer. Other great options are rice noodles, soba noodles or you can use pseudo-grain like buckwheat, quinoa, or amaranth.

- water chestnuts – this will give you fantastic crunch
Teriyaki stir-fry sauce
Equipment
- food processor or blender
Ingredients
- ¼ cup tamari sauce
- ½ cup water
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 2 tbsp grated fresh ginger
- 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder
Instructions
- Mince the garlic.
- Grate the ginger.
- Put everything into a high speed blender and blitz this up!
- That's it. Your sauce is ready!
